FAQs

What exactly do you offer with Renovations + Design?

We handle both the design and construction of your project under one team.

Instead of coordinating between a designer, architect, vendors and contractor, you’ll have a single, organized process from concept to completion—resulting in clearer communication, fewer surprises, and a smoother experience overall.

Most Importantly, you don’t have to be the ‘middle man’-we handle the details so nothing gets missed.

What types of projects do you specialize in?

We specialize in kitchen, bathroom, basement, and full home renovations, with a focus on projects where thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship make a meaningful difference in how you live.

Beyond individual spaces, we take a comprehensive approach to your home. Rather than treating each project in isolation, we help you develop a phased renovation plan that aligns with your budget, construction process, and your family’s long-term goals.

For example, if you’re planning a kitchen renovation now but anticipate adding central air within the next 2–4 years, we may recommend involving an HVAC specialist during the kitchen project. This allows us to install the necessary ductwork in advance, so when you’re ready to move forward, the system can be connected efficiently—without disrupting your newly completed kitchen.

Our goal is to ensure every renovation decision is thoughtful, efficient, and aligned with your future plans.

How much does a typical project cost?

A good starting point is to invest 8–18% of your home’s value, with larger projects reaching 20% or more.

That said, every project is different. Costs depend on size, scope, materials and your long-term plans for the home.

If you plan to stay for 7+ years, it’s often worth considering not just today’s value – but what your home could be worth in the future, and how the renovations will serve your lifestyle in the meantime.

We do have project minimums to ensure we can deliver a high-quality, full-service experience:
Kitchen Renovations starting at $20,000
Bathroom Renovations starting at $15,000

We provide detailed estimates early in the process so you can make informed decisions and stay within your investment range.

Ultimately, the goal isn’t just resale value—it’s creating a home that works better for you, while making a smart well planned investment.

What makes you different from other contractors?

We offer a semi-custom approach—more design guidance than a typical contractor, but more cost-conscious than a fully custom firm.
The goal is to balance quality, design, and value.

What kind of clients do you work best with?

We find that homeowners with busy families and packed schedules who value quality, clear communication, and a collaborative design process appreciate our services the most. Families who are frustrated with how their current home functions as the kids are growing, but have no desire to move out of their neighborhood.

If you’re looking for the lowest bid, we may not be the best fit—but if you want a well-executed project with fewer headaches, you’re in the right place.

Do you help with design decisions and material selections?

Absolutely! We guide you through layout, materials, finishes, and fixtures to ensure everything works together aesthetically and functionally. We partner with fantastic vendors to ensure quality products and reliable customer service.
To help you feel confident in your decisions, we provide detailed drawings and realistic renderings so you can clearly visualize your space before construction begins.

Our goal is to simplify the process and reduce decision fatigue wherever possible.

Do you have a specific design style?

We have one guiding principle when it comes to design: timelessness.
We start by considering the era and architecture of your home, and design in a way that respects and maintains its original character. Our goal is to refresh and improve the space while ensuring it still feels cohesive with the rest of your home.
This approach helps create a result that feels natural, well-integrated, and less likely to feel dated over time.

How long will my project take?

Timelines vary based on project complexity, but typical minimums are at the very least two months: a month for design and a month once construction begins.

Yes – this can mean being without a kitchen or bathroom for a period of time. That’s why we place a strong emphasis on pre-planning. The more decisions we make upfront, the smoother and faster the construction phase tends to go.
We’ll provide a clear timeline before construction begins and keep you updated throughout the project.

Will I have a dedicated point of contact?

Yes.
During the design phase, you’ll work closely with a dedicated designer who helps develop your layout, selections, and overall vision.
Once everything is finalized, your project manager will take over construction as your main point of contact. Behind the scenes, your designer and project manager continue working together to ensure everything runs smoothly.
This structure helps keep communication clear while making sure no details fall through the cracks.

How far out are you booked?

We typically book projects several months in advance.
Starting early ensures the best timeline and planning experience.
The design and planning phase will take a minimum of a month, with lots of factors contributing to this, including your availability and ability to make decisions.
With that, we suggest reaching out if you are considering a renovation within the next 6-12 months to allow all of us the opportunity to create your dream space.

How do you handle budgets and avoid surprises?

We build detailed pricing during the design phase and align everything with your budget before construction begins.
We also use allowances as guideposts to keep selections on track.
If changes come up, they are discussed and approved before any work moves forward.
While renovations can occasionally uncover unexpected conditions (especially in older homes), we address those situations quickly, clearly present your options, and work to keep your project on schedule.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, we are fully licensed and insured. We follow all local building codes and regulations to ensure your project is safe and compliant.

Can I live in my home during construction?

It depends on the scope of your project.
For smaller renovations, it’s often manageable.
For larger projects—especially kitchens or full-home renovations—temporary relocation may make the process more comfortable.

What happens if I want to make changes during the project?

Changes are common and completely manageable. We use a formal change order process so you understand the cost and timeline impact before moving forward.

Do you provide warranties?

Yes, we stand behind our work and offer warranties.
Of course, the goal is not to have to come back, it will cost us if we have to. Therefore, we install quality products and only work with subcontractors who align with our values.
This is also why we won’t be the lowest bid if you are comparing us to others. For example, during a bathroom renovation, we will be replacing your pipes with new pipe work to guarantee your newly installed tile won’t need to be replaced due to a burst pipe. Paying upfront for the quality now will save you in the long run.
We are confident that we won’t need to come back, but in the event we do need to, we will happily stand by our work. Specific coverage will be outlined in your project agreement.
